My parents are visiting for a few days this week and I had (long ago) promised my mom a scarf for her birthday (which is less than two week away). As if I needed any more projects to add to my ever growing list of things to knit, we headed to the yarn store yesterday so I could pick up a couple skeins of Universal Yarns Classic Shades. This is a 70/30 acrylic and wool yarn that comes in some beautiful, self, striping colors (you might remember it way back when). I cast on at the Zips game yesterday (thank goodness for club level tickets. It was cold as the dickens out there) and have hit about 18". I'm hoping to get it done by the time they head back to California on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to this squishy scarf, my mom caught sight of the socks I had made and asked if I could possibly knit some for her too. I can't say no to my mother. I just love her too much (and she bought the yarn). These socks will not be a birthday nor Christmas gift. They'll be a pair of socks for when I finish all the rest of my blasted wonderful gift knitting.
We looked at a couple of sock patterns and she said, "could I just have plain ones (read: stockinette)?"
Absolutely.
I love the scarf! I haven't been able to use a whole lot of self striping yarns so I love seeing other people work with them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty scarf for your Mom! I like the sock yarn she picked too ~ I'm getting the sock bug these days.
ReplyDeleteTell them not to hurry back to California because it's raining right now and very cold.
Oh what a wonderful scarf, perfect for you Mom! Also love the yarn, looks really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could knit such a scarf, I just learn to knit a few days ago! :)
Have a great weekend!

I love your "wonderful" gifts so far and who can say no to the mothers? I was pleased to see the Universal yarn knit up, because I bought a couple skeins a while ago and haven't been able to visualize what it is going to look like. IT is quite beautiful
ReplyDeleteEnjoy gift knitting!
The scarf is very pretty, and I like the sock yarn your mother picked out too.
ReplyDeleteGotta love self striping yarn since it brings with it the elimination of 1000 ends to weave in. I can't say no to my mother either.
ReplyDeleteLove the self-striping scarf! And your mom is so sweet to ask for plain stockinette socks... Less work for you! ;)
ReplyDeletegorgeous scarf and gorgeous sock yarn! you're a wonderful daughter!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for plain socks! It's so nice that your mother appreciates hand knit items, and it's' great that you like to make them for her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Mom! Handknit socks in any pattern are wonderful, but stockinette socks allow YOU to enjoy the Christmas music and sing along while knitting!
