Really?

Thank you everyone for all the well-wishes. I did manage to make it back to work on Wednesday and Thursday, just in time to get another snow day on Friday (yay!). And, since I had today off as well, it has made for a nice long weekend and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again.
I did finally finish something on Saturday (yay again!) but it's a sample of an unpublished pattern so it'll have to wait for a bit (no yay).

After finishing the sample knit Saturday, I was looking around for something to work on over the weekend. I thought, why not work on my school socks? I decided that since these were coming out just a smidge too tight (I could have cast on 4 more stitches) I would cast on for a new school sock. I started the cuff with my (third) new pair of Kollage square circular needles and made it a mere four rows after the 10 row cuff and...

you may notice in this hurried and poorly lit photo that the tip of the needle isn't actually attached to the cord. When it came off in my hand (for the third time!!) I actually shouted, "Aww, come on!" I'm finding the workmanship of these needles to be quite shoddy. I mean really? Three different sets? I can see one. Two, what are the chances? But three?  I've sent an email off to Kollage and was told that they would forward it to the owner of the company. I'm going to wait a day or so to see if I hear back from them before I go back to my LYS, which I'm starting to feel bad about. Even though I know I'm not the one causing the problem, I feel bad returning again and again with these problem needles. It's not like I'm knitting steel wool, it's sock yarn for heaven's sakes!

  1. Wow that is realllllly crappy. Is this the new firm cord or their older style cord? I just got a pair with the new firm cord after I heard from several people that the old cord/join was completely unusable. I like the firm cord so far, but WOW would I ever be mad if the needle and cord came apart like this.

  2. These are supposedly the NEW firm cords but I'm starting to wonder if my LYS didn't get a batch of the old ones.

  3. That is awful, Andrea! Sorry to hear you're still having issues with those needles. Hopefully someone can fix the issue or at least refund your money back.

  4. You must be the Hulk or something! I can't believe that 3 sets! I'd be asking for my money back instead of replacing them AGAIN! I hope the company helps you out!

  5. I would ask for a refund and go with another brand. I can only imagine this happening with a lace shawl on the needles ~ total nightmare.

I'm working on socks too :))) Glad you are feeling better.

  7. Yeah, I had the same problem, almost. I made it through a pair of socks, but I didn't think it would last through a second:
    Image of my join.

I sent a PM on ravelry a long time ago about it but never heard anything. I'm just calling it a loss at this point, and I don't think I'll buy another pair.

  8. I too have had problems with Kollage- their square needles flaked after knitting a swatch. The result was this scraping that set my teeth on edge. A month later a podcaster announced she had the same problem. I also think I've have lost the cord as it was starting to go and giving me a blister whenever my skin rubbed past the join. I'm not overly impressed with this company which is a shame as the square needles were pretty comfy bar the flaking and the blistering!

  9. Ugh, so frustrating! It might be time to move on to a different set of needles.

  10. OMG that really sucks!!! I wouldn't feel bad AT ALL. It's totally Kollage's fault and not yours. I know Addis are more expensive, but they're definitely worth it, IMO, as I've owned mine for years and years (and knit countless pairs of socks) with not a single one breaking.

  11. Like others have said, I wouldn't feel bad about taking them back, and I would definetely ask for a refund. 3 strikes and they are OUT. I'm sorry for your troubles.

  12. Oh you must be so frustrated. When you buy nice things for knitting you expect them to work. I feel that way when I buy really expensive yarn and find a tie right in the middle of the skein, I mean come on...
Hope it all works out for you,
    Meredith
