Classic Shades Striped Scarf

My parents are flying back home today and I bound off the edge of my mother's striped birthday scarf last night, just in the nick of time. It worked out perfectly since I took today off to spend some quality time with them (meaning I was able to wrangle my dad into taking some pictures outside in the snow).

This scarf turned out wonderfully cozy. I cast on 39 stitches using a size 9 needle. The acrylic blend makes it incredibly soft without being scratchy. The yarn is quite fuzzy though, and while this is a machine washable yarn, I wouldn't necessarily recommend putting it through the full wash and dry cycle. For this scarf I used two different colorways of the Classic Shades (Grapvine and Sapphires) and I think they compliment each other beautifully.

The one thing I do not like about this scarf is the finishing edge. I bound off using a larger needle and in the 1x1 rib. It makes for a much stretchier edge (like the cast on edge) but at the same time looks a bit loose and wonky. I guess I also don't like the fact that while the slipped stitch on the edge gives it a nice finished look, it also pulls a bit making it difficult to get the scarf to lie perfectly flat. I guess beggars can't be choosers or whatever so it'll just have to do. The last time I made this scarf (last Christmas, pre-blog) I bound off in knit with the same size needle and it still looked wonky but would absolutely not stretch. Oh well.

Overall, it's lovely and mom loves it so that's what counts, right?
