Sideways Grande Hat

I think this was just the thing I needed for my knitted pick-me-up.

I cast on for this Thursday, just in time to lay in bed and watch my TV shows. I picked it back up on Friday afternoon and after a couple hours, I had a new hat! And just in time for 80 degree weather, no less.

This hat has a really interesting construction. The entire thing is knit flat then seamed up the side to the center of the top. The cables are knit and twisted separately. I ended up using almost all that was left of my yarn. I was nervous that I would run out and that it might come out too big so, on the advice of many other Ravelers, I cast on 36 stitches.

I've never been much of a hat wearer. I think that has something to do with never having to wear a winter hat until moving to Ohio. But this might just be one that makes its way into my regular winter wear rotation.

  4. Thanks for visiting my blog. I love your hat and may add it to the long, long Rav queue. I used to hate wearing hats and sweaters, now that I knit, it has changed radically. One of my favorite patterns is Jared Flood's Quincy hat, the other is Horizontal Cables by Dawn Catarazzo. Good luck with the challenge this month! I have already seen a radical increase in my numbers! Erin
