Lace Anklets

The lace anklets for my color swap partner are done! I'm very excited to have finished my first pair of socks. I don't care that they are only anklets and not a full sock. I'm just glad I managed to do both of them.

This was my first time knitting with Malabrigo Yarn Sock. I really loved the color: a nice rich and tonal blue. I purchased this yarn at my favorite LYS (who now carries four kinds of Malabrigo!). I was a bit surprised to find the dye from this colorway rubbing off on  my finger as I knit. I've used different types of Malabrigo before (worsted, silky merino) and had never experienced this.

This was also my first time knitting with my new Kollage Square Double Pointed Needles. The last (and first) sock I had knitted I used Clover Bamboo dpns. While these worked fine, they did seem a bit flimsy, as though they might snap if I pressed them too hard. I really like the Kollage needles. I can't say that I particularly noticed their squareness, but they did feel easier to grasp. The needles also felt very sturdy, with no bendage.

Pattern: Lace Anklets by Whitney VanNes
Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Azules
Needles: #1.5 (2.5mm) 16" circs and #2 (2.75mm) dpns
Began: April 23
Finished: April 30

After I finished knitting and weaving in ends last night, I wanted to block these to really show off the lace pattern. I don't have any sock blockers and am not really in the position to run out and buy some this weekend. SO, I fashioned some sock blockers out of wire hangers.

I really despise wire hangers so I had to scrounge around my house to find even one (I found four). I managed to twist them into a sock-like shape and voila, a free pair of sock blockers. These may not be ideal but they'll definitely do for now.

  3. I love these! They are really cute. I may need to make those and the blockers as well. Love them!

  4. Congratulations on your first pair of socks! They are fantastic for a first sock! Mine are a pair of wonky vanilla socks that don't fit me very well. I'm impressed!

  5. Just wondering about they dye rub off - I am knitting a cardigan from Silky Merino Malabrigio and am experiencing the same thing. After you blocked did the dye "set" and stop rubbing. I would hate to wear this cardigan and run the clothes it is over.
