Now We Just Wait...

The Top Secret Project is finished, and now we just need to wait until the big reveal. It's kind of a weight off my shoulders because it's all I could think about the last few weeks. Because of that, I really haven't got much of anything else done. I did start and am almost finished reading a book, though (yay!). It's titled The Worst Hard Time and is first hand accounts from people that lived through the dust bowl era in the panhandle region of Oklahoma and southern Colorado. I'm really interested in the dust bowl era (Grapes of Wrath is another favorite of mine) so this has been an exciting read. Do you have any good books you're planning on reading this summer?

  1. Past "Best Book of the Summer" picks are:
The Bean Trees, Pigs In Heaven, Cane River, Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood - and THEN the other book which is really the first of the two books. I go for pure entertainment in the summer!

  2. I am an emergency manager by profession and a few years ago my colleagues and I started a "disaster" book club. Yes, I know we are weird. Anyway, we disbanded after about a year because doing disaster planning and response by day and reading about it at night really got to us. Nonetheless, we read some good books (including the one you referenced). If you like that genre, two of my favorites were "The Children's Blizzard" by David Laskin and "The Triangle Fire" by Leon Stein. Not exactly light summer reading, but interesting if you like that kind of stuff. Do some knitting in between to soothe your nerves :)

  3. gibknitty: Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to look for those books. I tend to alternate my reading during the summer by say reading a classic or something non-fiction, then I'll read something a bit "fluffy". Contemporary fiction or something you could buy at a grocery store :)

    Emptyknitster: YA YA!!

  4. I had to stop reading The Worst Hard Time because it was so well written that it was really stressing me out. Does that make sense? All of this horrible stuff was happening but I knew the Dustbowl was just about to start and make everything worse.

If you need any reading suggestions, let me know! Making reading suggestions is my job :)
