Timber's Crocheted Collar

In my last post, I had mentioned that I wanted to make a quick something for Timber or myself to wear at the Bark in the Park event (which is tomorrow!). Zina from His Glory Hand Knits suggested a cabled collar. I really liked the idea of a collar but, I'm a slow knitter. Additionally, I caught a yucky cold this week (it wasn't allergies) and haven't felt like doing much of anything. So I decided to crochet. In case I haven't mentioned this before, I'm a much faster crocheter. I spent the last couple days brainstorming what color yarn I would use to complement Timber's grey sable coloring and what kind of stitch I would use to spice up the collar. Here it is:

I settled for Elegant Yarn Heavenly, a DK weight superwash wool, in an emerald green color. I took the yarn and my G hook with me to work today (where I should mention I later also LOST my G hook) and got to stitching on my lunch break. I had measured Timber's neck last night (17" circumference) and had done some swatching to figure out how many stitches I would get per inch. I chained 70 and joined to the original chain (making sure not to twist the stitches!) and did two rows of single crochet in the back loop. On the third round, I alternated between one single crochet and one picot stitch all the way around. I had considered edging the other side with the picot also but decided it might be too much. He is a boy, after all.

Now Timber is all ready for the big walk. I also realized that he would still have to wear his harness and the bandana he gets for the walk. So now I'm glad I did just the one row of picot and didn't make the collar too wide. Wish us luck!
