The Baby Sophisticate Jacket is officially off the needles! I managed to get some matching thread and sew on the buttons yesterday, which took me all of 15 minutes (why do I procrastinate?). Many of you commented on the moose buttons and I too, am so pleased with them. I think they go well with the jacket and give it a bit of an outdoorsy look. Or maybe some Abercrombie flair? Either way, I love it.
This will be heading off to the parents of Baby H who are friends of ours from California but now reside in Washington. When I showed Adam the sweater last night he asked, "Why does that baby need a sweater?" to which I replied, "He's a Seattleite!" You can never have too many cardigans in Seattle and since Baby H isn't due until October, he's definitely going to need some cold weather wear. I can just imagine him wearing this little jacket, sipping his gourmet coffee.
The collar and button band of this jacket is done completely in garter stitch, using short rows to shape the collar. I used the sewn bind off to finish. If you've never used the sewn bind off, this is a stretchy bind off that looks great in garter stitch and is practically invisible. I also used this bind off recently for the sample knitting done for Weaverknits. There are a ton of links for this bind off if you use a search engine. It can also be found in Knitting Without Tears.
In regards to yarn, I had two skeins of Spud & Chloe Sweater for this project. After two swatches and finishing the project, I have about 45 grams of yarn left over.
