What's Up

I know I said I was going to take a little breather, but the same night I said that, I swatched for the Baby Sophisticate Jacket and cast on for a new scarf. I'll have more about the scarf in the next post. My camera battery was kaput when I tried to get a picture last night so I thought I'd have some ice cream while waiting for it to charge and then I dropped the glass my ice cream was in and it broke everywhere. While picking up the glass, I cut my finger. So, needless to say, no pictures of the new scarf and no ice cream.

Remember when I mentioned I was worried about gauge and sizing? Well, like I said, I re-swatched and wouldn't you know it? I'm making the jacket with the same size needles I started on. The pattern calls for a gauge of 15 sitches by 20 rows over 4 inches on size 8 needles using a worsted or aran weight yarn. There is no way I was going to come close to that gauge so I moved up to size 10 needles and am almost spot on.

I've knit the body of the jacket and started working on the first sleeve last night while watching old episodes of The Sopranos on DVD. My gauge is much tighter in the round than back and forth and you can see the difference in the sleeve.

I'm hoping when I block it, things will get evened out and look a bit better. I plan on knitting the sleeves and then blocking the sweater before adding the button band (like the Yarn Harlot). When I did this for the Spring Garden Tee, it was way easier to pick up stitches.

I'm also working on a couple little knitted hearts. I have a friend whose child will be attending kindergarten in the fall. She's addmitted she's very nervous about the whole thing and it's giving her stomach aches. The little hearts will be something small she can take with her and tuck into her pocket for a little extra reassurance.

I'd like to get these little projects finished by the weekend so I can get started on the sample knitting I have. The needles I ordered happened to be shipped to my old address (yes, the one in California whoops) but they should be here by the end of the week.

  1. Thanks for the blocking reminder. I'm almost at that point with a sweater and I agree--it makes a button band look so much better.

I hope your finger is O.K. Ouch!

  2. The little jacket looks great! One day I hope to try and make something as difficult as a sweater or jacket! Some day.

Great idea for the hearts. I'm sure it will help her when she can reach in her pocket and hold the little hearts. :)

  7. I really like this little sweater. I think it will be my new go-to pattern for gift knitting.

It is very kind of you to make the hearts to soothe some of the child's anxiety.
