As I mentioned before, I'll be doing the Sunny Spread for my parents' Christmas gift. I found some Caron Simply Soft in my hidden and long forgotten stash and plan on making a little trip around town this evening looking for a matching color (thank goodness for no dye lot acrylics). I'm really surprised with how soft this yarn actually is. And the best part: a 7 ounce skein yields 366 yards.
I've done some measuring and calculating and have figured that I need at least 81 squares to cover a queen sized bed. So far I've finished two. It looks like I'll be at this for a while.
At least they're pretty :)
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty, though - so it'll be worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteI love the Caron Simply Soft for projects in acrylic, and usually have a bit around. Beware of "no dye lot" theory. I've seen diffences in some yarns if enough time has passed between purchases. It's been pretty obvious in some Red Heart ombre yarns, but I've noticed it in solids of various brands as well. I can't recall a specific incident with Caron, but be careful.
ReplyDeleteIt will be gorgeous and what an amazing Christmas gift!!!! On a smaller scale I knit a throw blanket for my parents years ago for Christmas (pre-blogging) and to this day my parents have it displayed in their living room like a piece of art :)))
ReplyDeleteI almost suggested CSS, but since you mentioned the no acrylic thing, I refrained. I have four skeins of it in my stash that I've long planned on using in a blanket, but I have yet to cast on. It is very soft, and I think it will be a great choice for the gift.
ReplyDeleteoh my! this is going to make a gorgeous afghan!

ReplyDeleteI just finished a sweater for my daughter out of Caron Simply Soft- Persimmon (she doesn't like wool... obviously, not a fiber addict yet. lol) and the sweater is amazingly soft.
ReplyDeleteYou have chosen a pretty color. It is good that you only have to work with one square at a time so as not to feel overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the colour of your yarn - the spread will look so pretty when complete! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful choice- the yarn looks great. Simply Soft was one of the first yarns I crocheted with and it still remains one of my favs!
