I had a really awful week, although I won't go into details here. Let's just say, I did my best to make lemonade but sometimes it's easier said than done. Either way, I tried to make some "me time" this week and it's gotten me thinking about a new project.
About a year and a half ago, in the height of my swapping phase, I swapped some yarn for these mini-skeins. No, these aren't just regular mini-skeins. They're mini-skeins of Wollmeise.
This is back when I had grand ideas of knitting a sock yarn blanket (which has yet to come to fruition). I have a ton of mini-skeins hanging around, some of them really too gorgeous to get rid of and some just eh, and I'm kind of from the school of Waste Not Want Not. A couple weeks ago I decided to weigh my mini-skeins of Wollmeise to see just how much I have and would you believe there's almost 70g of yarn here? And you know what that means: socks. My plan is to do this pair of socks two-at-a-time, toe up; both new techniques for me. I figure this way I can ensure that the foot is the correct length and if I run out of yarn I can shorten the leg.
Now, here's another secret. I have a skein of Wollmeise tucked away in my stash (I know!) so if I really need the extra yarn, I can always wind that up. But I'm not quite ready to break into that skein just yet.
I'm betting you can do something really fun with this yarn! Toe up, two at a time is a really great way to go. Have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteohhh yes yes yes!! Can't wait to see them in action.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great plan!
ReplyDeleterainbow wollmeise socks sound like the perfect pick me up!
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a bad week :(
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you had a bad week.
ReplyDeleteBut your plan for the Wollmeise sounds like a great plan! I haven't tried the toe up, two at a time either. Let me know how you like it. I can't wait to see your socks!
Good for you for trying to get in some "me time". I hoped it helped. Now rainbow Wollmeise socks sound like something from heaven. :) I too have a skein of Wollmeise, that I can't bear to knit with, just yet.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had a bad week :(
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what socks are going to come out from these cute mini skeins!
hope this week is a better one. i look forward to seeing your socks!
ReplyDeletethese will make such cheery socks! i hope next week is better for you.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun socks these will be! Word of caution about toe up socks - you need to be careful to fit them as you go along. For some reason toe up socks come out "man" sized for me.
ReplyDeletePS Hope this is a better week for you.
Oooh. Yes! I believe I will be getting my hands on some Wollmeise for the first time ever later this year. It does mean breaking my stash pact, but, I mean, it's Wollmeise. It's worth it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you had a bad week, Andrea. I hope today is a better day!
Aw jeez I'm sorry to hear about the rough week - but happy that you have these deliciously colored mini-skeins to put a smile on your face. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome and fun idea! Can't wait to see your socks!
