Thank you everyone for all your kind words of encouragement. I really appreciate them. However, let me start by sharing the cold hard facts:
What is the overall problem? Well, I knit the wrong size actually. Oh yes, even I do those things. I should've knit the second to the smallest size and instead I did the smallest which, if I had paid attention, I would have realized obviously wouldn't fit. My gauge was pretty close to correct so why I thought the sweater would knit up a different size, I have no idea. Perhaps I was overly confident (even though I've told my kindergarteners "being a braggart is unbecoming"). Who knows? Right now me and Audrey are in a "cooling off" period. I'll probably frog it tomorrow and wait until the weekend to get started again (or maybe next weekend).
In the meantine, I did what any disheartened knitter would do: look for a new project. Specifically one of the instant gratification kind. I took one of my squares for my Mitered Crosses Blanket to knitting group but have started considering something small and full of instant gratification.
Right now I have my eye on the Sideways Grande Cloche from Boutique Knits. Even better, I'm thinking about using some leftover balls of Elann Peruvian Highland Chunky that I have leftover from the Dorflinger Tee. Call it avoidance or whatever but right now I could use a knitted pick-me-up.
Oh, Andrea! I had high hopes that you'd be able to block it into shape. You are handling this very well. I would not want to look at a pair of knitting needles or yarn for at least a month. That cloak might be just the thing to lift your spirits.
ReplyDeleteThat yarn is going to look amazing as a Sideways! I think you've found the perfect project for a pick-me-up! :)
ReplyDeleteI so relate to your situation. It's so hard to move on from a failed knit, but you are doing exactly the right thing. Knit that hat, on the double! You'll feel better, and be able to forgive Audrey. ;) And that color will make a fabulous hat, anyway.
ReplyDeleteBummer of a setback on your sweater. When this happens to me, I try to think of it as a chance to get twice the knitting fun out of that yarn. In the meantime, I think making that cute hat as a palate cleanser is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh. I'm just catching up on your posts and I feel your frustration. It sounds like you're coping well, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the setback - but, I guess it's good you realized it now, before the whole thing was done? (finding the positive somewhere!)
ReplyDeleteLove your solution - a new, quick knit is just what you need.
Oooh I can't wait to see the cloche. I love that hat and the color is so pretty :D
ReplyDeleteBummer. This definitely calls for the antidote of instant gratification! Good Choice :)
