Bark in the Park: Please Help

On May 15, 2010, The Humane Society of Greater Akron will be hosting an annual fundraising event, Bark in the Park. Bark in the Park is a fundraising walk and pet expo. The walkers find sponsors in order to help raise money and the pet expo has a ton of fun activities that help. This will be the first year that I will be participating as a walker with one of my pups. I've wanted to get involved since the first year I moved to akron because our dog Hazel is a rescue (click here to read about Hazel). Growing up, all of my family's pets (3 cats and 6 dogs over the course of 23 years) were rescued from the Human Society. The cause of helping homeless animals is near and dear to my heart.

It has taken me two years to figure out how I could get people to sponsor me. This year I've come up with an idea. I would like to host a yarn raffle. This where you come in. I need yarn donations. I would like to create two lots of yarn (yarn or fiber) to raffle. I will be donating skeins to the two lots as well. I have a lot of faith in the knitting/crocheting/fiber arts community because this is where I've met some of the nicest people ever. If you would like to donate, please contact me at peatmoss83@hotmail.com with the words "DONATION" or something similar in the subject line. You can also contact me on Ravelry. If you are a yarn donator, you will receive one raffle entry per $5 increment worth of yarn. For example, if you donate a skein of Malabrigo Yarn Sock (worth approximately $20) you will receive 4 entries as all raffle tickets will be sold for $5. I would like to have all donation yarn to me no later than March 29 in order for me to have time to photograph and post the information of the two raffle lots by April 1. The raffle will then go through the end of April.

Some skeins awaiting the raffle:

One skein: Schaefer Yarn Company Esperanza (Retail ~$35)

One skein: Earthly Hues Saplings (Retail ~$20)

Last year, the top individual walker was able to give $750 in donations to the Humane Society. While I don't want to be overly ambitious, I would like to meet the goal of being able to donate $200 plus the $15 registration fee. I would like to say thank you in advance for all your support, both monetarily, yarnitarily, and in spirit and kind words.

Again, to donate, please contact me by email (peatmoss83@hotmail.com) or on Ravelry.
