I'm still trucking on in terms of my Christmas crafting. As it stands today, it looks like the afghan for my parents will be done by Friday and will hit the post office Saturday morning.
As of this morning, I had only 11 motifs left. I cranked out 4 on my lunch break so I should be done with all motifs tonight. I'm hoping to get it all seamed tomorrow and then do the border Friday. It helps that somewhere around skein #3 I realized that I would run out of yarn if I tried to make 81 motifs. Instead of ordering more yarn (in which the shipping would actually cost more than the yarn), I settled on making it only 8x8 squares. I crocheted like a mad woman on Saturday and Sunday completing 27 squares and ending the night with an ice pack on my wrist. I had to take Monday off from crochet and instead started working on the Cedar Leaf Shawlette I'll be giving my sister-in-law. Amazingly enough, I completed the entire stockinette portion and am now only left with the leaf border and blocking. The end isn't quite in sight just yet but at least I'm sticking to the schedule I wrote out for myself. I know I'm not the only one left burning the midnight (or midday, or weekend) oil. So what's left on your list?
I didn't even HAVE a list until people requested knitted items, but now I do. Two hats and a scarf. Not an impossible task, but one I'm not looking forward to. Oh, and I need to finish my November Sockdown sock and start one for December. But that needs to happen before the 31st, so I'm good on that.
ReplyDeleteWow. You're working everything up really quickly!
ReplyDeleteI have the top of a hat for my mom left and I'm going to knit my sister a hat as well. My sis already knows that she is getting a hat so I might just stick the yarn in a box with a note and knit it after Christmas while we're both at our parents'.
Your afgahan is going to be lovely, do you plan on sewing or crocheting the squares together? I discovered a method of crocheting squares together that will give you back some of the length and width you lost by reducing the number of squares, and give a lacy strip between your solid squares. I don't have pictures, and although it's really easy, it's too much to go into in a comment. If you're interested please email me and I'll do my best to describe it. If I thought I could do it in time for you to use it I'd crochet up some squares and make a tutorial.
ReplyDeleteYou are a crocheting fiend! Sorry about your wrist, though. Mine has been aching a bit lately, too. I finished a shawl for my grandmother, and I'm trying to sew up some holiday potholders for my coworkers and family members, as well as a stocking for my boyfriend. The only knitting I'm doing at the moment is for myself!
ReplyDeleteI spent more late nights working like one of Santa's Elves than I care to remember!
ReplyDeleteSo now I start working on my projects in the summer - the gals at the LYS think I'm crazy but my goal is always to have items done before Thanksgiving. This year I could tell it wasn't going to happen so I changed projects midstream, I knit a much easier sweater. Later, I will go back and pickup the aran cardi(and present #1 for next year will be complete!)
that is going to be a stunning afghan - i'm super impressed with your speed and look forward to seeing the finished product.
ReplyDeletei've got few small items that still have to be knit (a bookmark for my grandma, more scrappy cats for the girls) and a couple crafty buy non-knitted gifts. i'm feeling like i can make it.
This year I am too lazy to make handknits for anyone but my husband. I am currently having a bit of a sock addition.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of the fact that you're making an afghan for a gift. How long have you been working on it?
ReplyDeleteI cast on for the Meret (Mystery Beret) by Wooly Wormhead last night. It's to be a gift for my son's preschool teacher. Good thing today is a snow day so I have time to finish it before break.
I didn't put the pressure on myself. No list. No knitted gifts...except for the cup cozies that I knit earlier in the year.
ReplyDeleteyou are rockin' the gifts woman! good luck finishing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all the knitting! I can't believe how quickly you are whipping up this afghan near the finish line!
