Better Late than Never

Today a very dear friend of ours is getting married. We had hoped to make it out to California for the wedding but they didn't pick a date until very late and by then, plane tickets out west were through the roof. I was pretty disappointed we weren't going to be able to make it so I wanted to make sure to send a nice gift. The couple isn't registered anywhere (it's her second marriage and I doubt he cares) so instead of just getting a gift card to Target (who wouldn't use that?) I decided to make something for their home.

I picked out the Mystic Comfort Pillow. It's a really lovely cabled throw pillow. Easy enough, right? I ordered the yarn in plenty of time and even though I was slow knitting on it, figured as long as it goes out within a week of their wedding (before or after) it's fine. Well, it's looking like it's going to be a week after. I finished all the blocking and seaming yesterday and headed to the craft store this morning looking for a 12"x22" pillow insert. Of course the store I chose to go to didn't carry that size. Did I look at the other craft store a block down the street? No, that would have been too easy. I bought the buttons for the back and headed home. Then called the craft store a block from the other. Yes, they did have that size. I'm going to head over there again tomorrow and try this thing again.

  1. I was once looking for something and started at the store furthest away from me, working my way back home. Of course I finally found it a store just a block from home. Which I'd walked past on the way to the store furthest away from me.

  2. That's a beautiful pillow. I'll bet they are so thrilled when they receive it, they won't mind when it gets there!

  7. Excellent pillow! Even when people are registered places sometimes I'm a punk and just knit them something anyway. A handmade gift for the home seems much more special.
